Microlaryngoscopy

Microlaryngoscopy is the examination of the voice box (larynx) whilst under a general anaesthetic…

This is usually conducted to source and treat an issue within the voice box, for example hoarseness. If our elite surgeons do discover any problem areas, a tiny portion of the voice box lining is extracted in order to be sent away for testing (known as a biopsy). This operation is usually very short and can take less than 30 minutes.

What should I expect after my microlaryngoscopy…

You may find that you have a sore throat after your operation; this is completely normal and is due to the metal tubes used during the procedure to examine the voice box. You may find your hoarseness or voice sounds worse, this is also normal and should be temporary until the linings of the voice box heal.
